Within the notarial records we found the last will of Jan Janssen Backx on 9 April 1742. It provided the following details about the Backx family:
The last will of Jan Janssen Backx and Catharina Vermeer, married and living in the hamlet of Bosch in the freedom of Oosterhout. Backx is feeling ill and is resting on his bed, his wife is healthy, both are in good mental health. All possessions of the couple will be inherited by the last surviving partner who will have the duty to care for the children, to feed and clothe them, teach them how to read and to write and enable them to learn a craft until they reach the age of 20 years or they get married. When they reach the age of 20 or get married each child is to be paid the sum of 6 guilders. Jan Janssen Back signed the last will, his wife, unable to write, made her mark.
